Knowing Your Admissibility In Advance

CBP Officers have a wide degree of discretion in deciding whether to admit one’s entry into the United States.  Visa alone may not get you in.  Therefore, some visitors may wish to know in advance whether they are admissible or not.  Earlier this month, CBP posted information that makes it easier for applicants to have a piece of mind, before departing their countries to the United States.  The piece of mind comes with a cost of almost $600 for applications, but may be waived depending on the circumstances.  CBP specifically discussed three procedures:

  • Form I-192: Application for Advance Permission to Enter as Non-Immigrant
  • Form I-212: Application for Permission to Reapply for Admission into the United States After Deportation or Removal
  • Form I-824: Application for Action on an Approved Application or Petition
